At the end of January, Cristiano Ronaldo apologized to Chinese fans. Now it's Lionel Messi's turn.
The 36-year-old Argentine apologized for not participating in a match between Miami "Inter" and Hong Kong teams in Hong Kong.
The football legend tried to justify himself in a video: "I read and heard many things that were said after the match in Hong Kong. I wanted to record this video and present the true version so that false stories wouldn't spread.
I heard people saying that I didn't want to play for political or other reasons, which is not true. If that were true, I wouldn't have even traveled to Japan or visited China, which I have done many times.
Since the beginning of my career, I have had a close relationship with China. As I said in the press conference, I had an inflamed abductor and couldn't play in the first matches in Saudi Arabia when I felt the pain," Messi confirmed.
Angry Chinese did not allow Argentina with Messi to play friendly matches there in March. Instead, the world champions will play in the USA against the Nigerian and Salvadoran teams.
🚨Leo Messi has now given his official statement about missing the game in China Hong Kong. 🇭🇰
