The selection process for the World Cup in Qatar from North and Central America has ended. There were no major surprises in the final round. Mexico and the USA secured their spots in the World Cup. In the final round, the US national team could only miss out on the World Cup by losing to Costa Rica 0-6 or by a larger margin. The Americans lost to their opponents 0-2, but still secured their place. Mexico easily defeated El Salvador 2-0 at home and secured a ticket to the World Cup. This will be the seventh consecutive World Cup for Mexico. Costa Rica finished in fourth place in the group and will have to play intercontinental matches to qualify for the World Cup. The Costa Ricans will play against New Zealand in the summer. Canada finished in first place in the group and had already secured their spot in the World Cup.
