On Sunday, the remaining eight matches of the 14th round took place in the Italian league. Important victories were achieved by "Fiorentina", "Chievo", "Sampdoria" and "Torino", while "Milan" and "Palermo" once again disappointed their fans by failing to secure a victory.
"Milan" played a tough match away against "Cagliari" and ended in a 2-2 draw.
The main action of the match began in the second half. In the 48th minute, Alberto Gilardino received a pass from his teammate Yoann Gourcuff and scored with his head to put his team ahead, even though the "Cagliari" players complained to the referee about offside during the pass. However, just 6 minutes later, the hosts managed to equalize. "Milan" defender Kakha Kaladze fouled opponent David Suazo in the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty kick which the fallen forward successfully converted to level the score.
Within ten minutes, things got worse for the visitors. David Suazo broke through past veteran Paolo Maldini and struck the ball towards the goal. Although the goalkeeper managed to deflect the ball, it fell to another "Cagliari" player Andrea Capone who scored with a header to put his team ahead. However, this lead did not last long as just 5 minutes later, "Milan" forward Marco Borriello equalized with a shot in the air.
However, a few minutes later, "Milan" complicated their situation when Andrea Pirlo fouled an opponent from behind, and the referee showed him a red card.
"Fiorentina" secured an important victory by defeating "Lazio" at home 1-0. The victory for the Florence club came from a goal by Luca Toni. The most productive player of the previous season scored the only goal of the match with a powerful shot in the 15th minute.
In the 69th minute, "Lazio" had a great opportunity to equalize the score when Stephen Makinwa found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a pass from Tommasi Rocchi, but his shot was fantastically saved by the opponents' goalkeeper Sebastian Frey.
"Palermo" failed to secure a victory for the third consecutive match, playing out a 0-0 draw away against the "Parma" team. The Sicilian club has only earned one point in its last three matches in Serie A and now trails the leaders "Inter" by eight points.
Victor Obinna shone once again, and his team "Chievo" achieved an unexpected 2-0 victory away against Tomo Danilevicius's struggling "Livorno".
The Nigerian V. Obinna scored both goals in this match. In the 70th minute, "Livorno" defender Antonio Filippini lost the ball and V. Obinna seized it, sprinted towards the goal, and defeated the opponents' goalkeeper. Another glaring defensive error by "Livorno" in the 78th minute allowed V. Obinna to score his second goal. Alessandro Grandoni failed to clear the ball from his penalty area, and goalkeeper Marco Amelia rushed out of the goal, leaving V. Obinna to score into an empty net. The Lithuanian T. Danilevicius appeared on the field in the 74th minute.
The "Torino" club celebrated their 100th anniversary with a 1-0 victory at home against the "Empoli" team.
However, the "Empoli" players can feel aggrieved by the referee's decision. In the 57th minute of the match, Francesco Marianini headed towards the goal, and the opponents' Simone Barone pushed the ball out from the goal line in the last moment. The referee did not count the goal, but upon review, it is clear that the ball crossed the goal line.
The hosts managed to score a goal only at the very end of the match. Gianluca Comotto unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, and the ball ended up in the opponents' net.
"Sampdoria" ended their unsuccessful streak of away matches by defeating the "Messina" team 2-0. The Genoa team's goals were scored by Daniele Franceschini and Fabio Quagliarella, while "Messina" ended the match with ten men as Marco Zanchi received a red card in the 85th minute.
"Udinese", playing at home, had a numerical advantage over the opponents for almost the entire second half but could not secure a victory against the "Reggina" team in a match that ended 1-1.
"Reggina" took the lead through Rolando Bianchi's goal in the 35th minute, but began the second half with ten men, as their player Maurizio Lanzaro was sent off. Taking advantage of this, the hosts equalized in the 69th minute thanks to Vincenzo Iaquinta's goal, but they were unable to find a winning goal.
In the final match of this round, the "Ascoli" team played to a 2-2 draw at home against the "Catania" team. Although the home team initially led 2-0 after two goals from Saša Bjelanovič, "Catania" managed to score two goals in the second half to secure a draw.
