In the first round of the Italian championship, there was no shortage of intriguing clashes. In the first match, held in Milan, the intrigue lasted until the very last seconds.
Thanks to Carlo Bacca's hat-trick, the "Milan" team played just over an hour against "Torino" leading 3-1, but at the end of the match Daniele Baselli leveled the score, and Gabrieli Paletta received his second yellow card, Andrea Belotti stepped up to take the penalty kick.
However, the young host goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma withstood the pressure, and Vicenzo Montella could celebrate a successful debut at the helm of the "rossoneri". Moreover, he did it against Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was fired from the same club last year.
Next, the other club from the "fashion capital", "Inter", unexpectedly lost 0-2 as guests to Verona's "Chievo", with both goals being scored by Valter Birsa.
Meanwhile, last year's silver medalist "Napoli" barely escaped against the newly promoted championship team "Pescara", as they were down by two goals after the first half.
However, in the middle of the second half, Dries Mertens scored a brace. The Belgian allowed the South Italian team to widen their lead, but there was enough time left to score at least one more goal. Maurizio Sarri's troops, however, failed to do so.
Also, incredibly intriguing matches took place in Bergamo, where the local "Atalanta" after a fierce battle lost 4-3 to Rome's "Lazio".
The guests from the capital were leading 3-0 after the first half, but "Atalanta" managed to get closer after two goals from Franck Yannick Kessie. Fortunately for Rome's footballers, their victory was sealed by Danilo Cataldi.
