Former "Milan" club director Marco Fassone revealed that the fashion capital team seriously considered the possibility of acquiring Cristiano Ronaldo a year ago, but simply lacked the funds.
According to M. Fassone, C. Ronaldo wanted to leave Madrid's "Real" club as early as the summer of 2017. However, not finding any suitable options, he stayed for another season and this summer moved to Turin's "Juventus."
"Li (the then "Milan" president) wanted to invite Cristiano to the team because he thought such a step could bring huge benefits to the Chinese market," M. Fassone said.
"He wanted to leave Madrid. We met with Jorge Mendes (Ronaldo's agent) in July 2017 to find out the player's real price.
I had to convince the club president that the acquisition of C. Ronaldo was just a dream for us - he was too expensive," said the Italian who held important positions at the "Milan" club.
"Juventus" acquired the footballer this year for over 100 million euros.
