The first match of the second round of the UEFA Champions League qualifying matches was unsuccessful for the football club "Panevėžys."

The Lithuanian champions suffered a 0:4 (0:3) defeat at home against the players of Jagiellonia Białystok.

The Polish club controlled the ball longer and scored the first threatening attack. In the 15th minute, after a throw-in and a couple of passes, Jesus Imaz from the Jagiellonia team found the net. After conceding a goal, the Panevėžys team started to play more aggressively – they made crosses, and Lucas de Vega attacked from distance. At one point, in a dangerous situation, Panevėžys was saved by Emilis Timburas from the opponent's attack.

In the 28th and 29th minutes, J. Imaz shone for the Białystok club. The forward made an excellent shot into the far corner of the net in the first situation, and shortly after, he sent the ball into the net following a pass from the actively playing Afimico Pululu. The second half was much calmer. Cheikhou Dieng, who was brought into the game after the break, actively engaged in the match and hit the target, but did not pose any problems for the goalkeeper, as Jovanas Čadženovičius headed the ball wide.

In the 78th minute, E. Timburas saved one long shot, but a couple of minutes later, he was helpless when Kristoffer Hansen precisely sent the ball into the lower corner with a single touch. During the remaining time, the team was saved once from J. Imaz’s threat by E. Timburas.

Panevėžys will play their next match on July 27, Saturday. In the 24th round of the "TOPsport A League," the Panevėžys team will face Džiugas Telšiai away starting at 6 PM.
