"Monaco" and "Marseille" secured victories, F. Thauvin received a red card (VIDEO)

Two matches of the French championship were played last night.

Last season's bronze medalist "Monaco" strengthened their position this year by climbing one step higher and defeating "Bastia" by 2-0 at home.

The match was evenly matched, with both teams lacking many opportunities, but it was the hosts who capitalized on them better. The first goal came after 35 minutes when "Bastia" player Francois Modesto scored an own goal, and in the second half, the victory was sealed by the young talent Bernardo Silva.

After the win, Monaco's team temporarily pulled ahead of their closest pursuer "Angers" by five points, whom they recently lost to.

Meanwhile, the team of "Marseille" moved up to seventh place, as they were able to defeat "Montpellier" on the road.

In this match, after a substitution, Florian Thauvin, returning from "Newcastle United", appeared, but he only spent ten minutes on the field, as he received a red card for a particularly harsh foul.

Fortunately for the visitors, this incident happened just a minute after Georges N'Koudou scored the only goal of the match.

The coastal city footballers managed to resist for more than 20 minutes in the end.

Results:

"Monaco" 2 - 0 "Bastia"

"Montpellier" 0 - 1 "Marseille"
