The club playing in the French championship has confirmed that Francesco Guidolin will take over as the team's coach. The official team website announced that a two-year contract has been signed with the Italian.
This strategist led the club last season, but this summer Luigi Del Neri became the head coach of the club in Serie A. In his previous career, Guidolin also worked with the teams of Vicenza, Udinese, and Bologna, and recently moved to Genoa, but left the club when he was relegated to the third-highest Italian league due to contractual disputes.
Meanwhile, Monaco, who had a poor start to the season, has been looking for a new coach since last month, when they dismissed Didier Deschamps, who led the club to the Champions League final two years ago. Jean Petit, who temporarily took over the team, worked quite successfully, but he refused to take on the job for a longer period.
According to the French press, Monaco tried to invite former Lyon coach Paul Le Guen to the coaching position, but he declined, citing that the team was not strong enough. It is believed that former Deportivo coach Javier Irureta and Argentine coach R. Diaz also applied for the position, but an Italian coach was ultimately chosen.
Without any previous experience working abroad, F. Guidolin will not be the only person in the new team with connections to Italy. Olivier Kapo, loaned from Juventus, Javier Ernesto Chevanton, who played for Lecce in the past, and Italian national team member Flavio Roma are also in the team.
