The French press reported that Madrid almost agreed to transfer Fernando Morientes to a French team.
According to France's radio "Europe 1", representatives of both clubs are currently finalizing the last details of the transfer, and Fernando Morientes should return to Monaco in January. It is believed that the player will not be sold, but rather loaned out until the end of the season, just like last season.
After a particularly successful previous season, where Morientes was not only the leader of Monaco's attacks but also helped the club reach the UEFA Champions League final, the 28-year-old Spaniard became a favorite of Monaco's fans. However, after the end of the loan agreement, he had to return to Madrid, where he plays only a substitute role.
Having failed to establish himself in the main lineup of Real, Morientes himself spoke about his desire to return to Monaco, so now it remains to be seen for the clubs to agree on the terms of the transfer.
If Morientes were to be loaned to Monaco again, it is very likely that Javier Saviola, a player belonging to another La Liga team but loaned out to Monaco, will return to the club. Furthermore, Barcelona does not rule out the possibility of reclaiming Saviola after the injury suffered by their forward Henrik Larsson, who will be unable to play until the end of the season.
Despite these talks, Morientes' agent Gines Carvajal stated that no agreement has been signed yet.
"Despite all the reports, we have not signed any agreement with Monaco yet," Carvajal said. "I won't deny that we are considering such a possibility, but for now, nothing is clear."
