M.Platini: 40 national teams should participate in the World Cup © EuroFootball.com

UEFA President Michel Platini said that in the World Cup, not 32 national teams should play, but - 40.

Recently, FIFA President Sepp Blatter expressed a desire for not only European teams to participate in the European Championship, but also several teams from Asia and Africa.

"I completely agree with Sepp that we need more African and Asian teams in Europe," M.Platini said.

"However, instead of taking spots away from Europe, we should think about a World Cup where 40 national teams could participate.

For example, we could add two more teams from Africa, Asia, and America. Also one each from Europe and Oceania," added the legendary Frenchman.

Currently, 32 national teams participate in the World Cup, but from 2018, when the tournament will be held in Russia, we may see more countries.
