Argentinian forward Mauro Rosales will remain at the Amsterdam club at least until this summer, as the latter failed to agree on the player's transfer.
Olympic champion M. Rosales really wanted to return to play in his native Argentina, and one of the strongest teams in the country was planning to acquire the soon-to-be 26-year-old forward. Argentina's transfer window closed only at the end of last week, but M. Rosales' homeland team was unable to offer acceptable conditions to the Amsterdam club.
"KNVB (Dutch Football Association) wanted to continue negotiations on this transfer until last Friday," said Ajax's technical director Martin van Geel. "The transfer window in Argentina lasts two weeks longer, but it has now closed, and M. Rosales remains."
"Ajax" coach Henk ten Cate added: "It's especially sad for Rosales himself. For weeks, the boy was tossed back and forth. He lived between hope and fear. One day he hears that he will return to his homeland, the next - that everything is changing."
