"Bayern" club's sporting director Matthias Sammer asserts that the team cannot stand still and must look for reinforcement for the future.
Arriving in the summer, "Borussia" striker Robert Lewandowski will provide competition for Mario Mandzukic, but M. Sammer claims that the Croatian will have to accept this.
"Mario remains an important player for us. However, he will have to come to terms with the fact that, like footballers in other positions, he will have to fight for his place on the field," the German assured the newspaper "Bild."
"We cannot afford to relax and stand still with the same lineup. We do not want to wait until everything falls apart and then buy random footballers."
"Our purchasing policy is strong and stable. Why is it wrong to buy players from other German clubs? People should show respect and understand that this is our job," M. Sammer emphasized.
27-year-old Mandzukic scored 10 goals in 16 Bundesliga matches this season. Similar is the future Croatian colleague's statistics - Lewandowski, who scored 11 times in 17 matches with "Borussia."
