In the unexpected journey to the Champions League final, Madrid's "Atletico" goalkeeper Mario Suarez is not flying in the clouds. Although "Atletico" won the Spanish champions title over the weekend, he does not consider his team as favorites against "Real."
"Madrid's "Real" are undoubtedly the favorites for the final," the 27-year-old footballer said to the Spanish media. "They are used to playing such important matches."
However, when talking about favorites, M. Suarez mentioned the other side of the medal.
"Real" were also the favorites to win the Spanish league," noted M. Suarez. "But we gave it our all and became a team that plays very intensively. That's why in Lisbon we plan to fight. As always."
M. Suarez didn't need to remind anyone that "Real" only finished third in Spain.
According to the "Atletico" player, the label of favorites for "Real" will not compel them to change their game plan. "Atletico" will stick to the same plan as Diego Simeone, who led the team to great heights this season.
M. Suarez also hopes that in Portugal, "Atletico" will be supported by a huge army of fans. Their loyalty was already proven in 2012 when in the Europa League final against Bilbao "Athletic" in Bucharest, they made their favorites feel at home.
"The support of the fans is very important to us. "Atletico" supporters help us a lot and motivate us," said M. Suarez.
