Vilnius city football club "Žalgiris", led by Marekas Zubas, who brought the team to the highest podium in the Lithuanian championship, will continue to work in the capital.

Rejecting offers from clubs in the Polish "Ekstraklasa" league, the 49-year-old specialist will continue to lead the Lithuanian champions.

At the end of the summer of 2012, the strategist took over the helm of "Žalgiris", helping the green and whites defend the LFF Cup trophies, win the LFF Super Cup and the national champions titles, and progress through three rounds of the Europa League qualifiers.

Under M. Zubas's leadership, "Žalgiris" achieved 43 victories, suffered 6 defeats, and ended 11 matches in a draw.

In the next season, the football specialist will face new challenges - defending all the titles won in Lithuania and successfully performing in the Champions League qualifying matches.

"I wanted to continue the work started at "Žalgiris", so I decided that this would be the right place for me in the future. I spent a year and a half in Vilnius. During this time, we managed to achieve almost all our goals. Now we need to take another step forward.

"The foundations are already laid for the next season - we reached the semi-finals of the LFF Cup, the Super Cup remains in the capital, and we earned the right to play in the Champions League qualifiers. This tournament will be the biggest challenge for me and the team," said M. Zubas, who extended his contract with the Lithuanian champions.

This week, the Žalgiris team will finish their training cycle and begin their vacation. M. Zubas will rest in his hometown until the start of the new season.
