UEFA Champions League finalists will receive a solid reinforcement this summer. The newspaper of the Spanish capital announces that Madrid's "Atletico" has won the battle for the Argentine defender Nicolas Gaitan from Lisbon's "Benfica".
The 28-year-old footballer played his last match for the Lisbon team over the weekend. Cameras caught N. Gaitan sitting on the bench after being substituted, starting to cry. His contract with "Benfica" is valid until 2019, but "Rojiblancos" will buy out the Argentine's contract.
The defender, who is demonstrating excellent form, has a buyout clause of 45 million euros in his contract. "Atletico" has decided to pay this amount and will welcome the powerful footballer into their team this summer.
There are rumors in the press that "Manchester United" is also interested in Gaitan, but Diego Simeone's team managed to beat out the English opponents.
N. Gaitan played 37 matches for "Benfica" this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 19 assists. The attacking player arrived in Portugal from Argentina in 2010.
