The coach of the Croatian national team, Niko Kovač, did not celebrate too much after the crushing victory against Cameroon and emphasized that they could have scored even more goals than four.
On Wednesday night, the last matches of the second round were played in the group. The Croats confidently won with a score of 4-0, and in the last round, they will fight against Mexico for a place in the next stage.
"The first 10 minutes were not ours, and Cameroon created several dangerous attacks," the strategist said. "But then we realized that we needed to play more seriously. Olić's quick goal helped us, but in this match, we could have scored even more goals."
"I can only congratulate the players who won in very difficult conditions. It was hard to sit or stand in such weather, not to mention constant running on the field," added N. Kovač.
The 42-year-old former Croatian national team player, now a coach, also does not expect an easy match against Mexico, which will determine their qualification to the quarterfinals.
"The match against Mexico will be like a final. We need to rest because we will face a tough opponent. This team is strong, but we are just as strong," N. Kovač concluded.
The decisive duel between Mexican and Croatian footballers will take place next Monday.
