Just a few years ago, Renato Sanches, a true sensation in Portuguese football, returned to Munich's Bayern and started preparing for the new season.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who was acquired by Bayern for 35 million euros in 2016, spent last season on loan to Swansea, but he played so poorly there that the fans didn't even want to see him on the field.
After an unsuccessful season in England, R. Sanches' future was unclear, but the new Bayern coach Niko Kovac is satisfied with the player's work in training and promises him playing time in the next season.
R. Sanches reminded everyone about himself in a friendly match against Paris Saint-Germain, which Bayern won 3-1. The Portuguese player contributed to the victory with a great penalty kick.
After the match, N. Kovac praised the player's performance and emphasized that R. Sanches simply wasn't treated properly when he first arrived to play in Germany.
"You have to carefully observe a player who arrives to play abroad for the first time. You can't expect him to demonstrate impressive results in such a short adaptation time," the coach said.
"The same applies to every player arriving in a foreign place for the first time. I don't think he was given enough time, but now he will get it.
He arrived at training very motivated. I see him working hard for all three weeks and I'm very happy that he managed to repay that work with a great goal against PSG.
For such players, you have to give them time, as much as they need," added the Croatian coach, who successfully worked with talented and young players in Frankfurt's Eintracht.
