Unexpected news has shaken German football - Munich's "Bayern" team has decided to part ways with Niko Kovač.
Over the weekend, "Bayern" suffered a 1:5 defeat against Frankfurt's "Eintracht". This failure finally led the Bavarian management to lose patience and take decisive action.
As stated in the official announcement, N. Kovač expressed his desire to step down from the position of coach himself. The separation of both parties was done by mutual agreement.
Club president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated in the official statement: "The results of the past weeks showed that action needed to be taken. There was a serious discussion in the club's management regarding Niko Kovač, who is no longer the coach of the "Bayern" team."
In his final statement, N. Kovač also said: "I believe this is the right decision. The results and the performance of the last matches led to this decision. My brother Robert and I would like to thank the "Bayern" club. The time spent here was good. We wish the best for this team."
"Bayern" confirmed that one of the assistants, Hans Flick, will temporarily take over as coach. There is no information yet about the search for a new strategist.
N. Kovač led the "Bayern" team since last season, where he became the champion of the German league and cup.
