„Borussia Dortmund“ club announced that team midfielder Nuri Sahin has extended his contract with the club and will remain in Germany at least until June 30, 2019. The 28-year-old Turk was born in Germany near Dortmund and has been with the club for the past 16 years, with a few breaks. Sahin signed his first professional contract in 2005 when he left BVB youth team.
„We are very pleased that Nuri is staying with us“, said „Borussia“ owner Hans-Joachim Watzke, - „he is very reliable, pleasant person and very attached to the „Borussia“ team.“
Sahin, who also holds German citizenship, joined Dortmund's youth academy in 2001. In the 2005-2006 season, he became the youngest player to appear in a „Bundesliga“ match at the age of 16 years and 355 days. And at the age of 17 years and 82 days, he became the youngest goal scorer in the strongest German league. These records still belong to Sahin.
After returning from a loan at „Feyenoord“ in the 2007-2008 season, Sahin became one of the key players in the 2010-2011 season when „Borussia“ won the „Bundesliga“ trophies. That season, Sahin was named the best player of the season with 6 goals and 8 assists. After a move to Madrid's „Real“ team and a missed season on loan at „Liverpool“, Sahin returned to Dortmund in 2013. In total, Sahin has played over 250 matches wearing the „Borussia“ jersey.
„Everyone knows how I feel about the „Borussia“ club, about the city, about the stadium, about our amazing fans. My heart is with BVB“, enthusiastically spoke Sahin.
