The entire football community is shocked by the tragic death of Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala, but his former club has already started a financial war against Cardiff City.
On January 19, Cardiff officially confirmed the record-breaking transfer of the 28-year-old player for a fee of 17 million euros. The Argentine had arrived in Cardiff and had signed a long-term contract, but shortly after returning to France, he never reached Cardiff again.
The footballer, along with the pilot David Ibbotson who was flying him, crashed into the ocean. The search ended only recently when the plane that carried E. Sala was found on the ocean floor.
A special investigator group determined that there was a dead body in the plane. It was recovered during an operation, but his identity has not been confirmed yet.
BBC reports that despite E. Sala's death, his former club wants to receive the full transfer fee. Cardiff had agreed to pay 17 million euros over three years, but they were supposed to make their first payment in early February.
If Nantes does not receive any payment within the next ten days, they will take legal action. Cardiff was surprised by Nantes' demands, considering that the player's death had not even been officially confirmed yet.
