"Napoli" president Aurelio De Laurentiis criticized Turin's "Juventus" decision to spend large amounts of money to acquire Madrid's "Real" star Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to the Italian, it is unreasonable to pay such a large (30 million euros) salary to a veteran starting his 17th season.
"To invest so much in one player who is ending his career is very dangerous for the whole club. This significantly exceeds Juventus' capabilities, and I am curious to see which will bring more success: sporting or monetary. If you start paying such insane salaries, sooner or later it will backfire on you," said Laurentiis.
The president revealed talks with the player's agent Jorge Mendes, who tried to convince Napoli to acquire the Portuguese legend.
"The player's representative tried to convince me that Ronaldo would make me rich, so it was simpler that the athlete should give the team the first earned 250 million euros, keeping the next 100 million euros for himself. This way the player would pay his own salary. However, then Juventus appeared and their offers began," he added.
