„Napoli“ owner and president Aurelio De Laurentiis considers next Sunday's match against „Juventus“ to be a true Italian derby.
„Bianconeri“ played a 1-1 draw with Milan's „Inter“ last Tuesday. This was a match that has long been called the Italian derby in the Apennine Peninsula, but in an interview given to the newspaper „La Repubblica“, the president of Napoli club expressed a different opinion.
„For me, the country's derby is the match between „Napoli“ and „Juventus“. We are not only talking about the team from Turin, but this is a club widely supported throughout Italy and even in our own city. However, „Napoli“ is the flag bearer of southern Italian football“, said A. De Laurentiis.
Both clubs clashed last December in the Italian Supercup final held in the Qatari capital, Doha, with Napoli winning after a penalty shootout.
„The match was an international promotion of our football, broadcasted by 170 television channels. We were supposed to play in August, but due to the Champions League, the match had to be rescheduled“, criticized the decision in the press the president of „Napoli“.
„I spoke out against the match in Qatar and suggested splitting the final into two games, played in Turin and Naples. But there were objections due to snow and holidays“.
Asked about Sunday's match, A. De Laurentiis gave a diplomatic answer: „Championship matches have many differences and „Juventus“ is doing better here, but we have also achieved success several times“.
