The Lithuanian national team lost to the Estonian national team in the final of the Baltic Cup tournament in Kaunas on Tuesday after a penalty shootout and took second place.
After the match, goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas emphasized that, although the Estonians had more ball control, the Lithuanian national team created better chances.
"The ball control was more with the Estonians, but we defended well. If you look at it that way, I think our chances were better, they had more. We missed some miraculous goals, managed to come back, the match was really tough.
Preparation for the penalty shootout also matters a lot, but it is a lottery. Let's be honest, but the Estonians beat them a bit better. If you start the series unsuccessfully, it's even worse than starting in second place," said the goalkeeper of the national team.
Meanwhile, Giedrius Matulevičius, who scored the only goal for the Lithuanian national team in the match, also said that losing a game in this way is very embarrassing.
"We had little of the ball, the Estonians controlled it, but we created the main opportunities. Very disappointed. We haven't won this cup for a long time, there was a chance, and we also played at home.
It's painful to lose any final, but penalties are a lottery, it didn't work out for us today. We practiced those penalties almost every day, we paid attention to it, but what happens in training cannot be compared to matches," explained the defender.
