After the end of the European Football Championship in France, the European Football Associations' Association (UEFA) has already carried out a very pleasant duty for the participants of the tournament - divided the prize pie among the federations for their performance at "Euro 2016," wrote lrytas.lt
This year, the prize pool was fuller than ever - with the number of championship participants increasing to 24 national teams, the incentive had to be significantly increased as well.
If eight years ago in Austria and Switzerland, UEFA was scratching its head on how to distribute 184 million euros, and four years ago in Poland and Ukraine during the championship it cut the prize pie of 196 million euros, this year the participants' bank accounts will receive 301 million euros.
It's no surprise that the European champion Portugal received the largest chunk from UEFA - the country's football federation will receive as much as 25.5 million euros as a "thank you."
France received a prize of 23.5 million euros. UEFA did not neglect any of the 24 national teams that participated in the tournament: for reaching the "Euro 2016" final stage, countries received 8 million euros each. For victories in group matches, they received 1 million euros each, for draws - 500 thousand. National teams that reached the tournament quarterfinals received an additional 1.5 million euros, quarterfinalists - 2.5 million, semifinalists - 4 million euros each.
Portugal, as the winner of the final, added an additional 8 million euros to its account, while the French received 5 million euros. Germany ranks third in terms of prize size - UEFA allocated 18.5 million euros to them. The newcomers of the championship, representatives of Wales, became fourth, receiving 18 million euros.
Our neighbors, the Poles, will not be neglected either, as UEFA will transfer 14.5 million euros to them.
