It is still unclear how many teams will participate in the 2006 Lithuanian "A League" championship - ten or nine. It will depend on the decision of the Kėdainiai "Nevėžis" club. Last season, the Kėdainiai team finished last in the "A League" championship and did not win a single game.

"The winner of the LFF First League, Alytus "Alytis," announced just a few days ago that they will not compete in the "A League." When this became clear, there would no longer be obstacles for us to stay in the elite national league. However, we have not yet decided in which league we will play - the top or the first. It is very unfortunate that "Nevėžis" cannot play the matches of the "A League" in Kėdainiai. This is a huge disadvantage. On the other hand, we need to carefully calculate our financial capabilities," said Saulius Skibiniauskas, the manager of "Nevėžis," officially to the "A League" website on Wednesday.

He stated that "Nevėžis" should make a decision in the very near future. This week, the Kėdainiai footballers started training. After last season, only goalkeeper Marius Poškus left the team, who became the goalkeeper coach of Klaipėda "Atlantas."

"So far, there haven't been many changes in 'Nevėžis.' Now we will start assembling the team. The same coach - Vytautas Vaškūnas - is working with the team. If we stay in the 'A League,' there will be one group of players, if we choose a lower league - another. I understand that we lack stronger players if we want to compete in the 'A League' championship," said S. Skibiniauskas.
