„Barcelona“ star Neymar and his club will stand trial in Spain on charges of corruption, as reported by lrytas.lt.
The 25-year-old footballer, along with the Catalan team, lost their final appeal, thus failing to fully convince the prosecutors that his transfer from the Brazilian club „Santos“ was done „cleanly“.
Due to this court decision, no further appeals can be made.
In Spain, prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence and a fine of over 2 million euros for Neymar for fraud. However, if the court finds Brazil's football star guilty, he should not go to prison.
According to the practice of the Spanish legal system, decisions to imprison for up to two years are usually suspended. Prosecutors also seek to fine „Barcelona“ club 8.5 million euros, and impose a fine of about 7 million euros on the „Santos“ team.
In July, „Barcelona“ leader Lionel Messi was sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax evasion. He has filed an appeal.
