Former Portuguese national team striker Nuno Gomes praised his compatriots Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, but believes that the latter does not have the same understanding of football as Figo.

37-year-old Nuno Gomes played for the national team alongside both players, but considers them different.

"Figo was the best in the world in his time, and now the best is Cristiano Ronaldo," the retired Portuguese player told the UEFA website.

"Figo had more brains, but Ronaldo has more power and is stronger. Cristiano scored more goals because he can play on the wing and in the center. Figo was more of a winger, but he was also fast," Nuno Gomes added.

29-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer for the Portuguese national team. He has scored 49 goals, while Figo found the back of the net 32 times.
