In the first semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigerian national team defeated South Africa after a penalty shoot-out.

In the 67th minute, William Troost-Ekong scored a penalty kick, taking the "Super Eagles" ahead.

In the 85th minute, Victor Osimhen doubled the lead, but his goal was disallowed after a VAR review. In the 90th minute, a penalty was awarded to Nigeria, which was successfully converted by Teboho Mokoena, taking the match to extra time.

In the 113th minute of extra time, Terem Moffi, who had previously played for Vilnius' "Riteriai" in 2019, forced the opponent to receive a red card, leaving South Africa with ten players in extra time. Ultimately, Nigeria failed to capitalize on the numerical advantage and the match went to a penalty shoot-out.

Terem Moffi converted his penalty successfully, while T. Mokoena missed his. The third penalties were missed by players from both teams, but in the fourth round of penalties, both Nigerian and South African players were successful. Finally, Kelechi Iheanacho stepped up to take the 5th penalty from the spot, which he converted, sending Nigeria to the final.

In the final, which will take place this Sunday, Nigeria will face the winners of the Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo pair.
