The attacker from Madrid, a Greek, bought a debt-ridden Athens club. Although for some time it seemed that the player would not succeed in buying the club, eventually an agreement was reached to purchase 58% of the club's shares.

As the player himself stated, this means that his career as a footballer will end after this summer. However, the player did not rule out the possibility of becoming a player for the club to which he belongs next year, as his contract with Atletico expires at the end of June.

After successfully buying the club he represented for seven seasons before leaving to play for Atletico last summer, the player said: "My performance at the European Championship will be the last and I want to perform as well as possible."

Nikolaidis, who always publicly demonstrated his love for AEK, is highly respected among the club's fans for such dedication, but it is claimed that five AEK players - Mihalis Kapsis, Theo Zagorakis, Vassilios Lakis, Konstantinos Katsouranis, and Vassilios Tsiartas - are unhappy that due to the purchase of the club by the Atletico attacker, they will have to reduce their salaries.

According to unofficial data, AEK's debts amount to 165 million euros (almost 570 million litas), and if the club does not manage to reduce them in the near future, they may be relegated from the top Greek league.
