The search for the new head coach of the Lithuanian men's national football team by the Lithuanian Football Federation seems to be finished - Valdas Urbonas is expected to be confirmed in the nearest future.
According to 15min journalist Marius Bagdonas, on Tuesday the LFF should present the entire coaching staff of the Lithuanian national team, with the main face being 51-year-old V. Urbonas.
Tomas Danilevičius has been conducting intensive negotiations with Vilnius "Žalgiris" throughout the week. It is believed that V. Urbonas will step down from the coaching duties at "Žalgiris" and focus all his attention on the national team.
The sports director of the Vilnius club, Deividas Šemberas, recently stated in an interview that he does not see a situation where the same coach would work at both the club and the national team.
Immediately after Edgaras Jankauskas was dismissed, it was known that the LFF leadership would be looking at Lithuanian names. The main candidate was Valdas Dambrauskas, but he rejected the offer.
Recently, Marek Zubo's candidacy emerged, but there are practically no doubts about the new national team strategist - in the new national team cycle, V. Urbonas will lead the Lithuanian team.
The experienced coach has also worked at Jūrmalos "Spartaks", "Trakai", and Panevėžio "Ekrantas" during his career. At the beginning of his career, he worked as an assistant at Vilnius "Vėtra" and "FBK Kaunas".
