Rivaldo criticized the Brazil national team's coaching staff for the decision to give the number 10 to inexperienced Lucas Paqueta.
The 22-year-old defender, who plays for Milan, wore the number 10 jersey in the match against Argentina, usually worn by Neymar.
Rivaldo believes that such a responsibility should not have been placed on a relatively inexperienced defender.
"I watched the Brazil and Argentina match and I feel sad about what happened with the number 10," Rivaldo wrote on his social media account.
"They gave the number 10 to Paqueta. A jersey that is respected all over the world. This jersey number should not be given to a player who is on the bench or a substitute who comes in after the first half. Everyone knows this jersey number because of legends like Pele, Rivelino, Zico, Rivaldo, Kaka, Ronaldinho, and Neymar.
We cannot blame the player in any way, this is a mistake of the coaching staff. They know very well what this jersey number means and that it can cause problems for a 22-year-old player who has a bright future in the Brazil national team.
Just as the coach tried to protect Rodrygo in this match, who has been playing well for Real Madrid lately, he should have done the same with Paqueta (not giving him the number 10). We all know that there are never friendly matches between Brazil and Argentina," added Rivaldo.
