In Uruguay - a huge tragedy: the national team, passionately supported in the South American Championship quarter-finals, ended the fight for the trophy.
On Saturday evening, the Uruguayan national team lost to Peru after an 11-meter penalty shootout. Uruguay dominated during regular time, but the head coach Oscar Tabarez did not try to find fault.
"The result is disappointing, but we have to accept it," said the strategist.
"We played with the goal of winning, tried to play our football all the time, but ultimately we failed. We made a mistake in one aspect - penalties. We had seven penalties, during which we scored three goals.
However, this is not an excuse. We simply could not win these matches, we were not ourselves. The opponents came with the right plan and blocked our way.
I can say that there are no teams that always win or always lose. We have to learn from these matches and come back stronger," said O. Tabarez.
