FIFA today announced the official statement, stating that the Council of the largest football community unanimously approved the expansion of the World Cup teams to 48. Yesterday we wrote that today is preparing to officially present the implemented idea of the organization's leader Gianni Infantino and significantly expand the number of teams. Today, on the official FIFA page, it is announced that the Council unanimously approved G. Infantino's idea, which will be implemented for the first time at the 2026 World Cup. In total, according to the new format, teams will be divided into 16 groups. Interestingly, each group will not play the usual four teams, but only three. Until now, 32 of the planet's strongest national teams competed in the main World Cup tournament.
