Yesterday evening reports that London is tempting the Czech national team star Tomas Rosicky have been confirmed. On Tuesday, the Dortmund defender officially moved to this year's UEFA Champions League finalists club for an undisclosed fee and signed a long-term contract.
"I am very happy to be here," said the 25-year-old defender. "Today is a great day for me. Arsenal is the best club in Europe and I will give my all to it."
T. Rosicky will officially join his new teammates after the World Cup.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was particularly pleased with his new signing, praising the player's "technique, ball control and sharp passing."
Having scored 15 goals in 53 national team matches, T. Rosicky was a long-time target for Atletico Madrid, but Borussia did not meet the deadlines for payment promised by the Spanish club, lacking bank guarantees.
Although the transfer fee is not officially disclosed, it is believed that Arsenal will pay Dortmund around 10 million euros for the player.
It is believed that T. Rosicky's arrival at the London club means that another French defender, Robert Pires, will definitely leave the team.
T. Rosicky arrived at Borussia Dortmund in 2001 from Sparta Prague. He was then a record purchase for the Bundesliga, with Borussia paying 18 million pounds sterling.
