London's "Arsenal" official website announced that they have reached an agreement with free agent Stephan Lichtsteiner.
The 34-year-old right-back has played for Turin's "Juventus" club for the past seven years. His contract with the Italian champions ended this summer, so both parties decided not to continue their cooperation.
S. Lichtsteiner is joining "Arsenal" for free. He will try to provide competition for Hector Bellerin, who received a fair amount of criticism last season.
The Swiss player hopes to contribute to "Arsenal's" return to the Champions League: "Our goal should be to bring the club back to the Champions League. Arsenal is a big club with a great stadium and many fans, so their place is in this tournament."
S. Lichtsteiner has played a total of 257 matches for "Juventus." In the past, he has also played for the jerseys of Rome's "Lazio," "Lille," and "Grasshopper" teams.
