"Barcelona" wish to acquire "Valencia" defender Jeremy Mathieu has become a reality. On Wednesday, the Catalan club officially announced the acquisition of the 30-year-old Frenchman, for whom "Blues" will pay 20 million euros. The footballer will sign a four-year contract with "Barcelona", which includes the possibility of extending cooperation for another season. J. Mathieu's buyout clause will be 50 million euros. The Spanish vice-champions reached an agreement with "Valencia" at the last moment. This morning, J. Mathieu, along with the entire team, departed from Valencia Airport through Madrid to South America for a tour, as negotiations for his acquisition had reached a dead end. When the plane landed in the Spanish capital, the player was told that his route was changing and he would not travel with the team through Atlanta. Barcelona offered 15 million euros for the player, but the Valencia team leadership persistently refused to sell the player for an amount lower than his buyout clause at the time, i.e., 20 million euros. "Barcelona" could have simply paid the player's buyout as stipulated in the Spanish football regulations, but in that case, they would have had to pay additional taxes worth several million euros. However, in the end, Barcelona's negotiators agreed to pay the amount requested by "Los Che," so the deal will be recorded only between the clubs. J. Mathieu played for "Valencia" team since 2009. Previously, the footballer wore the jerseys of "Toulouse" and "Sochaux" teams.
