The club completed all the formalities and acquired striker Djibril Cisse from the club. The 22-year-old striker cost the English club 14 million pounds.

The player arrives in England despite all contract and transfer fees being agreed with former Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier. The player himself denied that this could in any way affect his transfer or the quality of his game.

D.Cisse was interested in several other clubs, but the Frenchman himself stated that his dream is to play for the Liverpool team.

"I already love the Liverpool club," said D.Cisse. "It's the club where I want to play. Several clubs were interested in me, but I always wanted to play in England and especially for Liverpool, as they were the first to show interest in me two years ago. They were the only ones then. I gave my word to the club and I will keep it."

Cisse will play with the number nine jersey for his new club. It is difficult to say whether he will be able to secure a place in the starting lineup, as he will have to compete with Czech striker Milan Baros, who practically became the most prolific player in the European Championship. The player chosen by Benitez, in the offensive line alongside Michael Owen, should become a tandem that is hard to stop for all defenders.
