Didier Drogba has signed a one-and-a-half year contract with the Chinese club "Shanghai Shenhua".

The 34-year-old footballer has represented London's "Chelsea" team for the past eight years, but negotiations for extending his expiring contract failed.

"I have considered all the offers I have received in recent weeks and decided that the best choice will be "Shanghai Shenhua"," said Drogba, who will travel to China in July.

He added: "I am looking forward to a new challenge and the opportunity to live in a different culture. The Chinese football championship is growing, so I hope to contribute to that."

In the new team, Drogba also plays alongside another former "Chelsea" striker Nicolas Anelka. The team is coached by the former Argentine national team strategist Sergio Batista."
