"Barcelona" officially confirmed the termination of cooperation with Ernesto Valverde and hired 61-year-old Quique Setien to replace him.
E. Valverde lost his job after an unsuccessful performance in the Spanish Supercup. However, this decision had been brewing for some time - the game did not satisfy either the players themselves or the club's fans.
He had been coaching "Barca" since the summer of 2017. During that time, the team became Spanish champions twice and won the Copa del Rey once.
The 55-year-old Spaniard became the first coach since 2003 to be dismissed by "Barcelona" in the middle of the season.
His successor, Q. Setien, had been without a job since the end of last season when he was fired from Sevilla's "Real Betis" club. He had previously also coached "Las Palmas" team, which competed in the "La Liga" championship.
His career at the Andalusian team ended quite unsuccessfully, but in Spain, he is loved for his playing style, which is closest to the true "Barcelona" school.
The Catalan club has signed a contract with him until the summer of 2022.
