Speculation about the new "Barcelona" strategist has ended - it was announced on the official website that the team will be led by 53-year-old Ernesto Valverde from the next season.
The "Barcelona" team had to start looking for a new strategist after Luis Enrique announced his departure after the season back in March. The Catalan team had known their new coach for some time, as the date when the new strategist's name would be officially announced was scheduled just a week ago.
E. Valverde himself recently announced that after four years he is leaving the Bilbao "Athletic" club. The strategist who led the Basque club since 2013 won one trophy - the Spanish Supercup, surpassing the same "Barça".
"Barcelona" president Josep Bartomeu briefly expressed his views on the strategist in a press conference: "Valverde is an experienced and knowledgeable specialist in his field. He has developed many young talents and has qualities that are acceptable to "Barça".
So far, no contract details have been revealed, but it is believed that E. Valverde will sign a two-year contract.
During a small part of his career at the "Barcelona" club, E. Valverde in his coaching career has also led the Barcelona "Espanyol", "Villarreal", Piraeus "Olympiacos" and "Valencia" teams.
