"Valencia" confirmed on their official website that they have acquired defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin from "Arsenal" in London for 13.5 million euros. The 26-year-old Frenchman has been part of Arsenal's academy since 2008 and has been regularly featuring for the team since 2011. However, the recent seasons have not been the most successful for F. Coquelin, as his position in the team was taken by Granit Xhaka. The Frenchman had to look for a team where he would get more playing time, and that was the main reason why he moved to Spain. "Valencia" states that they have signed a contract with F. Coquelin until the summer of 2022. His contract will include a release clause of 80 million euros. In total, F. Coquelin played 160 matches for the main "Arsenal" team and won the FA Cup twice.
