Due to injuries, Netherlands footballer Ibrahim Afellay, who did not fulfill his potential at Barcelona, will seek to revive his career in the English Premier League at Stoke City.
The 29-year-old winger's contract with Barcelona ended this summer, so he arrives at Stoke City for free. The once highly regarded player will sign a two-year contract with Stoke.
"He is excited about the opportunity to play in the Premier League," said one of the team's managers Tony Scholes. "He knows many of the team's players, so he will have no trouble adjusting."
Afellay arrived at Barcelona in 2011, but was loaned out for two seasons. In the 2012-13 season, he represented the Schalke team from Gelsenkirchen, and last season he played for Olympiacos in Greece.
In Greece, Afellay played 21 matches and scored four goals.
Madrid's Atletico right-back Javier Manquillo also learned about his new club.
The official Marseille club website announced that they have reached an agreement with the 2014 Spanish champions, and the 21-year-old player will spend the season in France.
Last season, the Spaniard also did not play for Atletico. He was loaned out to Liverpool, but failed to shine and only appeared 19 times.
After the season, Marseille will have the opportunity to buy Manquillo's contract.
