„Sunderland“ club announced that they have acquired former London „Tottenham“ striker Jermain Defoe from „Toronto FC“. The transfer fee was not disclosed.
The Englishman signed a three and a half year contract with the „Black Cats“.
Meanwhile, in return to the Canadian team will be the American Jozy Altidore, who has not succeeded in England.
Defoe said: „This is a great club. I always enjoyed coming here. I liked playing against „Sunderland“ because of the stadium atmosphere and fans. It's a great place to play and I am really looking forward to the moment when I can step onto the field.“
The 32-year-old footballer scored 11 goals in 19 matches in the MLS league.
