Madridthe Wednesday was as hot as ever for Atletico club - rojiblancos finally confirmed the acquisition of 19-year-old Joao Felix.
In an official statement, Benfica from Lisbon had previously announced that they received a bid of 126 million euros from Atletico Madrid for their protégé Joao Felix.
After just over a week, the deal was officially completed. Atletico informs that they have signed a seven-year contract with the promising Portuguese.
126 million euros is an absolute transfer record for Atletico. The 19-year-old J. Felix will become the fourth most expensive footballer of all time.
Interestingly, Atletico offered 6 million euros more than the release clause specified in his contract - 120 million euros. It is said that rojiblancos chose this option to distribute the money in installments, rather than paying the full release clause at once. An additional amount of 12 million euros will go into agent Jorge Mendes's pocket.
The rising star of Portuguese football played 43 matches in the main team last season, scored 20 goals and made 11 assists.
J. Felix is being bought with the intention of replacing Antoine Griezmann, who is soon to officially join Barcelona. Atletico will receive 120 million euros for him. #PuroTalento pic.twitter.com/ehvuo8YBNI— Atlético de Madrid (@Atleti) July 3, 2019
