The Munich "Bayern" finally finished negotiations for the German national team striker Lukas Podolski. Multiple Bundesliga champions have been targeting one of the most talented new generation German players for a long time and, according to the German media, they agreed to acquire him for approximately 10 million euros.
Although the footballer has not yet put his signature on the contract with "Bayern", and the deal will only be finalized after the World Cup, the transfer was confirmed by both "Köln" president Wolfgang Overath and L.Podolski himself.
"I am excited that the transfer details have been settled. I am looking forward to a new challenge, a new city, a new club. "Bayern" is the best club in Germany and it's great to be a part of it," said the 20-year-old player at a press conference held during the German national team training camp.
Despite interest from well-known clubs, after spending the 2004/05 season in the second Bundesliga with his native "Köln", L.Podolski returned to the top league this season. However, this year the club remained in second-to-last place among the best teams in the country and again dropped to a lower division, so the promising striker decided to leave. The club had to satisfy this desire, as in the summer of 2007 the player could have been bought for just 1 million euros.
