London's "Arsenal" club announced on Friday that former "gunner" player Mikel Arteta has become the new team coach.
The 37-year-old Spaniard, who has been working as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at "Manchester City" team, signed a contract with "Arsenal" that will be valid until the summer of 2023.
M. Arteta will replace Freddie Ljungberg at the helm of "Arsenal", who has been in charge of the team since Unai Emery was dismissed.
"It is a huge honor, as "Arsenal" is one of the biggest clubs in the world. We must fight for the most important trophies, that's what the club leaders emphasized," said M. Arteta after signing the contract.
"We all understand that a lot of work awaits us, but I am confident that we can achieve our goals. We need to remain realistic and understand that nothing will change overnight, but the current squad is also talented enough, with many young players in it," - M. Arteta spoke after signing the contract.
The Spaniard defended the honor of "Arsenal" as a player from 2011 to 2016.
