"Real" Madrid's official website has confirmed that 24-year-old Croatian national team midfielder will play for London's "Chelsea" club on a loan contract next season by his own request. Midfielder M. Kovacic, who plays in the defensive position, demanded to leave the Madrid team this summer. Due to limited playing time, the Croatian wanted to be sold, but Real Madrid found a way out and managed to bid farewell to the player for just one season. According to official announcements, there is no buyout clause in the contract for the possibility of acquiring M. Kovacic's contract by Chelsea, so the player should automatically return to the Spanish capital after the season. M. Kovacic became a "white" player back in 2015. In total, he played 109 matches as a midfielder over three seasons and scored three goals. For Chelsea, this will be the second newcomer in the defensive midfield position - this summer, Jorginho also joined the team.
Official announcement: Mateo Kovacic.
