Long-running negotiations between Munich's "Bayern" and Manuel Neuer regarding the extension of the contract finally reached a straight end. "Bayern" officially confirmed that they have extended their collaboration with the team's captain until 2023. The previous contract of the 33-year-old player with "Bayern" was valid until the summer of 2021. There have been rumors for a long time that "Bayern" and M. Neuer did not agree on the contract duration, as the Bavarians no longer want to offer long-term contracts, especially after acquiring promising Alexander Nubel from "Schalke" in Gelsenkirchen. "We are happy that Manuel has committed his future to us. He is our captain and the best goalkeeper in the world," briefly remarked Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The German, who has been playing for "Bayern" since 2011, has already played a total of 375 matches.
