Bilbao "Athletic" on their official website stated that "Manchester City" has bought out Aymeric Laporte's contract.
Rumors about the 23-year-old defender joining the "citizens" have been circulating for some time. Today, the deal was confirmed, and the "citizens" paid 65 million euros for the Frenchman - a sum stipulated in his contract.
In his farewell statement, A. Laporte wrote: "I do not want this farewell, which will give me the opportunity to experience new challenges, to be forever, so I say 'goodbye'. I am leaving a unique club that I will never forget. I want to thank everyone for everything!"
A. Laporte grew up in the "Athletic" club - he strengthened the Basque ranks back in 2010, playing in the academy. He made his debut in the main team in 2012 and so far has managed to play 222 matches.
This is already the third "Man City" defender in a season that cost around 60 million euros - Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy were acquired for a similar price.
