Amsterdam has signed a one-year contract with Egyptian striker Mido.

The 27-year-old footballer was a free agent after failing to establish himself at Middlesbrough in England.

"We needed another striker, but we could only allocate a small amount for that," explained Ajax strategist Martin Jol.

The Egyptian has already played for the Ajax team from 2001 to 2003.
